Is it permissible to discharge Zakaatul-Fitr in money?

August 5 2013 , Written by Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Salih Al Uthaymeen Published on #Fatwas

Fatwa of Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Salih Al Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah Allah) about Zakaatul-Fitr:

Question that was asked: Is it permissible to discharge Zakaatul-Fitr in money?

Answer: Zakaatul-Fitr must be paid in FOOD. And does not fulfill its cash value. This is because the Prophet (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam) made it mandatory (his acquittal by) "its" with dates or "its" barley. (One SA' is a quantity of four mud - and a mud corresponds to the quantity that can contains two clasped hands).

Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (radiallahu 'anhu) said: "We used to pay (Zakaatul-Fitr) in the time of the Prophet (Salla Allahu' alayhi wa sallam) by a " SA' " of FOOD." [Al-Bukhari 2:582].

So it is not legal to discharge Zakaatul-Fitr in money or clothes or furniture. Instead, what is required is to discharge them in what Allah has made obligatory by the mouth of the Prophet (sallahu 'alayhi wa sallam). There is no consideration for the Istihsan (observing something as well, while it has no basis in the legal sources: Quoran and the Sunnah) of the people who saw that paying it with money as a good thing. The Law (Shari'a) does not follow the opinions of people. No, it (The Law of Allah) is from the All-Wise, from The All-Knowing - Allah (subahanuhu wa ta'ala) - The Mighty, the Glorious, the Knower of all things. So, if what has been mandated by the mouth of Muhammad (Allah sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) is one SA' of food, then it is not possible to get around this, no matter what our intellects do see as well. Instead, the human being must question and suspect his own intellect and his own opinions if they are in opposition or contradict the Law of Allah. [End of the fatwa]

The corresponding amounts for Zakaatul-Fitr have been fixed as described below.

Note: The meeting in which these equivalences were determined was attended by Toulab Al'Ilm (Students of Knowledge), among them: Shaykh Muhammad Ali Ferkous - May Allah preserve him, amine.

AS AN EXAMPLE: 1 SA' corresponds to the amount to be output per person, that is to say, for example, a person who would give dates for zakat ul-fitr should be the quantity of 1.8 kg of dates, if a person wants to give Zakaatul-Fitr with rice, it will be 2.3 kg...

Another example, a household consisting of husband and wife, the husband will then discharge  to him and his wife the amount of 2 SA ', that is to say, if he wants to give dates and rice for instance, so it comes out the amount of 1.8 kg of dates and 2.3 kg of rice.

If it is a family consisting of husband, wife and two children, he will have to give for Zakaatul-Fitr the amount of 4 SA '.... etc.

Salam alaykomquantity for Zakatul Fitr
