You want to do I'tikaaf at Edinburgh Central Mosque...You'll have to pay...

August 16 2012 , Written by Karim ben Amor Published on #Mosques in Edinburgh

central mosque I realised that this Ramadaan 2012, the number of Muslims doing i'tikaaf at Edinburgh Central Mosque decrease considerably this year. Sopahan Allah! However, this may be related to different matters....

Doing i'tikaaf during the last ten days of Ramadhaan is part of the Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammed (salla Allah aleyhi we sallem) as it was reported in the hadeeth of 'Aaishah (may Allah be pleased with her) who said that the Prophet (salla Allah aleyhi we sallem) used to observe i'tikaaf during the last ten days of Ramadaan until Allah took his soul, then  his wives observed i'tikaaf after he was gone. Narrated by Al Bukhaari (2026) and Muslim (1172).

Now in Edinburgh Central Mosque you have to be registered in alist (that may shared to the police as the administration is well-known for working closely with the police) and they give as a condition for you to be accepted to do i'tikaaf: you'll have to pay £20...Everyone is giving his own reason for this "administration fee".

I thought that this may include the food for those who do i'tikaaf...(keep dreaming...), no food is provided, their family will need to come to mosque to provide them the food...

What makes me feel bad for this situation is not the food which is not provided for those who do i'tikaaf or the £20 to pay...NO!!! It is the principle here of how they turn an act of worship done for the Hereafter as a business for this Wordly life...

Allah The Most High says in Surah Ibrahim (14 verse 42):

"And never think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror]."

And Allah knows Best...
